Your First Visit

Preparing for your first appointment:

  • plan for your first appointment to be 1.5-2 hours long (intake and treatment)
  • follow-up appointments will be 40-60 minutes
  • eat a little something 1-2 hours prior to your appointment
  • wear something comfortable or bring clothes to change into (towels will also be available, if needed)
  • bring completed paperwork (I will email this to you prior to your appointment)
  • be prepared to talk about everything- detailed poop questions included!
  • don't brush your tongue! We use this as a diagnostic tool
  • it'd be best to *not* wear any lotion or oil

The acupuncture consult, in my office, typically takes 40-60 minutes, depending on your imbalance(s). We will discuss your current symptoms, past illnesses, and other health concerns. The intake is extremely important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account.

This meeting will help me connect the dots so that I may come up with a tailored treatment plan. The treatment plan will be very individualized. Often, two people with the same imbalance will not be treated with the same points.

After finishing up your intake, we will begin your acupuncture treatment. Once the needles are inserted, I will leave you to lie comfortably for 25-35 minutes with the needles in place. You will have a call button if you need me for anything at all. It is not uncommon for patients to fall into a deep meditative state during this time. I refer to this state as taking an "acu-nap." If needed, we may follow the acupuncture treatment with other modalities like cupping, gua sha or moxibustion.
